Clinical Assistant Professor
The College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University is seeking a full-time, 9-month career track clinical faculty member at the rank of clinical assistant professor for our Biomedical Informatics and Data Science PhD, MS, and BS programs, as well as the Health Informatics MAS online program. This is a fixed-term appointment, renewable annually. Subsequent one-year appointments may be offered, under the same terms and conditions, at the discretion of the College and University. Effective August 16, 2026, the College of Health Solutions will include three new schools: School of Human Performance and Lifespan, School of Clinical Sciences, and the School of Health Systems Transformation. It is expected that this position’s academic home will be within the School of Health Systems Transformation.
Responsibilities for this position include teaching a varied selection of in-person, hybrid, or online undergraduate and graduate courses in the field of biomedical informatics and data science and providing service to the College, School, and relevant degree programs. These courses may cover varied subject areas in bioinformatics, population health informatics, clinical informatics, biomedical data science, artificial intelligence, and health applications, among others. Applicants must demonstrate evidence of teaching experience and a strong commitment to high-quality teaching at the undergraduate/graduate levels. Typical workloads for clinical/instructional faculty are consistent with 80% teaching (usually equivalent to four courses per semester) and 20% service.
About the Biomedical Informatics and Data Science Program
Arizona State University’s biomedical informatics and data science programs (BS, MS, and PhD) provide a comprehensive, interdisciplinary pathway for students interested in applying data-driven approaches to healthcare and biomedical research. Across all levels, the programs emphasize integrating computing, data science, and health sciences to improve patient outcomes and advance medical knowledge. Students gain hands-on experience in healthcare analytics, machine learning, bioinformatics, and clinical data systems, preparing them for roles in research, healthcare, and industry.
Essential Functions
- Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in biomedical informatics and data science.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Effectively collaborate with colleagues.
- Engage in program, school, college and/or university service activities.
- Support student success and advance work aligned with the ASU Charter.
Required Qualifications
- An MD, DO, PhD, ScD, DNP, PharmD, or other terminal degree or a foreign equivalent with support to show evidence of the degree OR Master’s degree in biomedical informatics, health informatics, biomedical data science, or a related field plus 5 years of directly related industry experience.
- Teaching experience in the informatics and data science area at the college or university level OR at least 2 years of related industry experience in training and facilitation, workshop or seminar leadership, public speaking or presentations, and coaching or mentoring.
- Demonstrated ability to work, collaborate, and communicate effectively with varied students, colleagues, community partners, and staff in a multicultural environment.

Desired Qualifications
- Board-certified professional in clinical informatics.
- Experience working in clinical environments.
- 2-5 years of teaching experience at the college or university level OR 3-5 years of related industry experience in training and facilitation, workshop or seminar leadership, public speaking or presentations, and coaching or mentoring.
- Experience teaching in-person, asynchronous online, and hybrid formats.
- Experience developing undergraduate and/or graduate courses.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in providing service to an academic program and university, and/or the community and profession.
