Responsibilities
- Responds to biowaste request. Prepares and disposes of biohazard waste (sharps containers, rags, mop heads). Coordinates and arranges delivery and pick-up of biological waste. Uses Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to perform special cleaning of contaminated and infectious materials, trash and waste materials and disposal of PPE into biohazard receptacle.
- Cleans and disinfects patient exam rooms, clinic waiting areas, classrooms, and common areas employing special techniques in areas where there is the potential for infectious illness. May also respond to emergency situations to prevent exposures to bloodborne pathogens and other contagions.
- Sweeps, mops, vacuums, waxes, and polishes floors and other work areas including classrooms. Cleans restroom areas using appropriate cleaning solution. Keeps storage areas and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy. Dusts and cleans furniture, walls, windows, and other equipment and fixtures. Empties wastebaskets and transports other trash and waste to disposal areas.
- Utilizing University vehicles, runs errands, on an as needed basis, to include, but not limited to, pickups of liquid nitrogen, vaccines, or other medical related equipment and products. Responds to event request, which may be located on and off campus, and moves furniture as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver’s License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the practices and procedures of custodial work.
- Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Skill in safely operating various types of motorized vehicles including but not limited to dump trucks, tractors, forklifts, pallet trucks, front-end loaders, and golf-carts.
- Ability to meet physical requirements as determined by position.
- Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in area of work.
