The successful applicant will undertake research in line with the School’s research strategy, teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level, contribute to School’s administration/outreach activity, and deliver and enhance clinical service. The postholder will develop independent research programs as well as collaborate and augment the current strategic strengths of WWIEM in Child Health to include specialities of Surgery, Respiratory and Critical Care and strengthening the links between the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and researchers at the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine.
The successful applicant will also support the delivery of Paediatric Surgery services in Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children through provision of outpatient and inpatient services. As with all staff in the Belfast Trust, the job purpose is subject to regular review in light of emerging pressures and priorities.
About the person:
Candidates should clearly demonstrate on their application how they meet the following criteria:
- Primary Medical Degree and Higher degree (PhD, MD or equivalent).
- Full GMC Registration plus a Licence to Practice
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Paediatric Surgery via
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or CESR (CP) – proposed date must be within 6 months of interview
- CESR/Portfolio pathway, or alternative routes to specialist registration
- Post registration qualification (Membership of Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent by examination).
- APLS/ EPLS certification
- Recent, relevant publications in peer reviewed/refereed journals that are recognised internationally as being high quality, commensurate with experience, and a research profile which complements the research priorities and strengths of our Institute
- Experience of developing research methodologies, models, approaches and techniques
- Experience of presentations at national and international meetings and conferences
- Relevant teaching and academic administration/management experience at University Level
- Clinical experience in relevant speciality and evidence of progression appropriate to career stage.
- Experience in the management of clinical service in the relevant specialty.
