Clinical Maxillofacial Prosthodontist

The College of Dentistry at The Ohio State University is seeking applications for clinical-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant/associate professor in the Division of Restorative and Prosthetic Dentistry, with a joint appointment at Ohio States Comprehensive Cancer Center Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. The primary responsibilities of this position are performed in the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospitals Head and Neck Service at the Wexner Medical Center. The positions duties include administrative and supervisory oversight of the professional and laboratory support staff; attending tumor board sessions; assisting in developing clinical protocols; and providing patients with the full scope of intraoral and extraoral maxillofacial prosthodontic care. Other duties include research and scholarly activity, supporting the overall mission of the division, participating in university and college governance, and contributing to the colleges continuing education programs. Opportunities to engage in biomaterials, and clinical and translational research are also available.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required: Candidates must have a DDS/DMD degree or equivalent degree and a certificate of advanced education in prosthodontics and maxillofacial prosthetics from a CODA-accredited program. They also must be eligible for a regular or limited teaching license by the Ohio State Dental Board. Information on state dental licensure is available at dental.ohio.gov/Licensure/Dentist.

Desired: Preference will be given to applicants that are board-certified and have significant administrative and clinical experience, including fabrication of extraoral prosthetics, and an MS, PhD, EdD, or other advanced degree. Board certification by the American Board of Prosthodontics is highly desirable.

The Division of Restorative and Prosthetic Dentistry is composed of several disciplines, including Operative Dentistry, Dental Anatomy, Occlusion, Fixed Prosthodontics, Removable Prosthodontics, Implant Dentistry, Digital Dentistry, and Dental Materials Science.

The College

The College of Dentistry (CoD) distinguishes itself nationally by engaging faculty throughout the campus, around the state, and across the country in a host of experiences that provide enriching opportunities. The College of Dentistry is Ohios only state-supported dental school, and it educates more than 60% of the states dentists. Comprised of ten divisions, the College supports nine advanced education programs accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. In pre-doctoral clinical education, eight small group practice clinics that focus on comprehensive care will provide an ideal environment for dental and dental hygiene students to work in a vertically integrated model for delivering care. The college is physically connected to the seven hospitals at the Wexner Medical Center, and it is the only state-supported dental school in Ohio.

The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital is one of 45 National Comprehensive Cancer Hospitals, and it is the third largest cancer hospital in the U. S. The Head and Neck Service spans a broad range of disciplines that include medical and radiation oncologists; head and neck surgeons; maxillofacial prosthodontists; voice and swallowing specialists; molecular and biological pathologists; genetic scientists and more all specializing in a specific type of head and neck cancer research, prevention, detection, treatment, and care.
