Clinical Pharmacist, Outpatient
The Outpatient Clinical Pharmacists in the Specialty Pharmacy are responsible for assisting with outpatient specialty pharmacy operations at the University of Toledo in a manner that promotes high-quality, cost effective, professional standards of service. The specialty pharmacist oversees pharmacy technicians, pharmacy residents, IPPE and APPE students within the dispensing pharmacy and clinics as part of the day-to-day operations. The pharmacist will also be responsible for processing and dispensing of prescriptions in the 340B pharmacy in a manner which maintains compliance with the laws set forth by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
This position will also be responsible for performing the clinical duties required for the high-touch, complicated patient population utilizing specialty medications in the UT Health system. This pharmacist is knowledgeable about the prior authorization process for various insurance plans, insurance coverage, and available community and charitable resources for patients requiring specialty medication therapy and oversees the utilization of these resources through the specialty pharmacy program. This pharmacist is responsible for oversight of specialty medication access. This pharmacist works collaboratively with a team of outpatient individuals to assure accurate processing, distribution, and inventory management of both traditional and specialty medications for patients of the serviced outpatient clinics in compliance with laws set forth by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of accredited pharmacy school
- Must hold current and unrestricted Ohio Pharmacist License
- Two to Five years’ experience in outpatient or retail pharmacy required
- PGY-1 residency or 3 years of clinical pharmacy practice preferred
- Board certification or specialty certification required within 4 years of hire; pursuant to medical staff credentialing requirements
- Immunization certification required
- Knowledge of purchasing and strong inventory management skills
- Strong computer skills required with knowledge of pharmacy software systems
- Skilled and knowledgeable regarding prescription benefit third party insurance billing
- Knowledgeable in physical, chemical, and pharmacological aspects of pharmacy practice with special interest and ability to develop and implement innovative pharmacy practice models and programming
