Clinical Research Fellow (PhD Degree)

About the role

We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow to undertake work in surgical oncology.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team studying the biology and management of peritoneal metastasis from gastric cancer, aiming to improve understanding of the disease and support more effective, personalised treatments that can influence clinical practice.

The scope of the research will entail clinical trials of normothermic catheter based intraperitoneal chemotherapy as well as aligned mechanistic and implementation research. Work will include collaboration with clinicians and scientists across Imperial College and other universities and will be a unique opportunity to contribute to research that directly informs future therapeutic strategies and patient selection for advanced cancer treatments.

The research is closely aligned with two clinical trials that intend to evaluate normothermic catheter based intraperitoneal chemotherapy as both a palliative (IPa-Gastric) and curative (SPECTRA) treatments for gastric cancer peritoneal metastasis. The post will therefore offer an exceptional opportunity for someone who is interested in becoming a future trialist in surgical oncology. Being able to undertake research alongside these trials will enhance the training experience and offer an opportunity for wider networking and collaboration.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with an interest in research and they would be expected to register for a higher degree (PhD). You must be able to demonstrate some previous experience in research and must show evidence of ability to develop personal research projects.

What you would be doing

Undertake a leading role in a major research project, as directed by Mr Piers Boshier and other academic supervisors. The research project will entail project design, experimental work in addition to data analysis and reporting the results in peer-reviewed journals.

The research project will be in the field of surgical oncology – specifically gastric cancer peritoneal metastasis.
