Colorectal Surgeon
This is an academic position in the practice and teaching of general and colorectal surgery to medical students, residents, and allied health professionals with direct responsibilities to the Chief of the Division of General Surgery and to the Chair of the Department of Surgery.
This position is ON SITE only
Administration 10%
- Assist in the assessment of surgical staffing and education needs in the specialties of general and colorectal surgery in Central and Southern Illinois and develop education programs to meet these needs.
Research 10%
- Actively engage in research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Division.
- Provide a role model for students and residents as an investigator.
- Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support research.
Teaching 20%
- Participate in the development and implementation of specific undergraduate curricula in colorectal surgery.
- Participate directly in residency training for general surgery residents and colorectal fellow.
- Attend resident core conferences.
- Participate in continuing education programs in colorectal/general surgery for both the clinical faculty and for practicing physicians in the area.
- Provide a role model for students and residents as a teacher and practicing surgeon.
- Teaching skills of Robotic Surgery to residents of General Surgery and Colorectal Surgery.
- Serve on educational committees where appropriate within the School of Medicine
Service 60%
- Set an example to future practitioners of highly skilled and conscientious practice of colorectal surgery that is balanced with self-education and other academic activities.
- Assist in the coordination of multiple disciplinary clinics for the care of colorectal/general surgery patients.
- Maintain a clinical practice in colorectal surgery and general and acute care surgery in order to enhance clinical proficiency.
- Participate in peer review for assessing clinical practice skills for faculty within the Division.
- Represent the Division in regional, state, and national matters pertaining to the field of colorectal surgery.
- Attend national meetings and symposia in related fields for the purpose of contribution, acquisition of additional knowledge, and as an example to other physicians.
- Serve on committees in national, regional, and state societies pertaining to colorectal surgery.
- Represent the Division and/or Department on committees as requested by the Division Chief and Department Chair.
A. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
B. Board-certified or board-eligible in Colorectal Surgery
C. Completed residency in General Surgery
D. Completed fellowship in Colorectal Surgery
E. MD licensure in the State of Illinois
