The mission of the C-I Doctoral Program is to produce leading health service psychologists who are broadly trained in the science and practice of psychology, actively self-reflective, optimally prepared to work in a wide variety of settings with diverse clientele, and demonstrably committed to an ethic of personal responsibility, social awareness, and global engagement.
Accreditation
It first received APA accreditation in October, 1996. The program has been continuously accredited since then including full, ten-year re-accreditation after the review cycle that began in 2017 (the next self study is due in 2027).

General requirements
- Have completed an advanced degree (M.A./M.S. or Ed.S.) in Clinical, School, or Counseling Psychology, or a closely related field. If you have any questions about whether or not you would qualify, contact Andrea Henriques at henriqas@jmu.edu.
- Submitting GRE scores is optional for applicants. Those who wish to submit their GRE scores may do so such that their scores are considered as part of their overall application, but those who do not submit them will not be penalized and their applications will be fully considered with no negative impact.
- Submit a personal statement.
- Submit three letters of recommendation from professionals familiar with the student's academic work and relevant professional experiences;
