Communications Strategist- School of Public Health
Job Summary
The SPH Communication Strategist is responsible for developing and managing messaging and content to promote Augusta University's School of Public Health. In compliance with AU's Reporting Relationships Policy, this position has a dual reporting relationship to the university's Communications & Marketing department (solid line) and the School of Public Health (dotted line).
Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:
Leadership and Administration
- Manage the daily administration of the Communications office including but not limited to editorial and digital communications planning and project oversight. Serve as the communications and marketing liaison between SPH leadership and AU Communications & Marketing. Conduct routine reviews and updates of website content as needed ensuring ongoing improvements and website phased updates and redesigns.
- Maintain social media activities in collaboration with university social media activities executed by AU Communications & Marketing
External Communications Management
- Curate editorial content to strategically promote SPH initiatives and stories and regularly post to approved channels. Produce the annual SPH magazine. Generate and pitch news, features, multimedia stories that highlight the SPH, faculty, staff and student accomplishments.
- Oversee SPH website content, ensuring useful, fresh, and up-to-date information. Utilize tools provided and or endorsed by DCM (ex: Poppulo, Emma, Marigold, listservs, etc.) to electronically distribute media and other forms of communication. Maintain skills to effectively utilize new tools required to comply with DCM standards. Regularly post current content on electronic bulletin boards in all SPH departments.
Internal Communications Management
- Oversee internal communications platforms, including SPH SharePoint and Teams site, and monthly internal e-newsletter.
- Manage, delegate, and/or consult on communications or marketing requests from SPH faculty, staff, and students. Regularly meet with SPH leadership to address their needs in SPH communications strategy. Serve as the primary point of contact/interface with the School's subject matter experts to capture/draft and produce/edit information to be delivered through various communications outlets. Create, coordinate, and select photography and videography for print and electronic communication. Capture and maintain a growing library of digital content, testimonials (images, videos, quotations) and written content which conveys the experiences, people, achievements, and initiatives of the School and its programs. Translate and/or communicate university-level communications and marketing strategies and changes to communicates and marketing strategies and updates (e.g., expanded brand and logo use, enrollment marketing objectives, refocused written and visual content objectives).
Communications & Marketing Plan Development & Implementation
- Oversee the implementation of the SPH internal and external communications and brand marketing plan, including, for example, written and visual content for web and social publication, newsletters, an annual SPH magazine, editorial and digital marketing. In collaboration with SPH leadership and AU Communications and Marketing support the SPH enrollment marketing plan. Collect, analyze, and report data on the impact of SPH communications and marketing plans.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in related field and a minimum of three years of communication and marketing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field.
Experience with media software, social media platforms, camera, radio and print media.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
- Working knowledge of standard office equipment.
- Detail oriented with great communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
SKILLS
- Prioritization, time management, and social media discretion.
- Supervisory skills are necessary to provide indirect supervision of personnel assisting with social media platforms.
ABILITIES
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism to interact with all levels of AU personnel and external stakeholders on the local, state and national level.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement, work well under pressure, and manage deadlines.
- Ability to exercise a great degree of discretion and independent judgement representing the SPH communications and marketing efforts.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position).
Pay Band: B10
Salary Minimum: $52,500- $65,600 annually.
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
