Job Summary

The Division of Children's Health Services Research (CHSR) is seeking an experienced Contracts and Grants Specialist. This position supports the contracts and grants portfolio of several faculty within CHSR and the Children’s Health Research Institute (CHRI). The primary duties include pre-award, post-award, financial projections, monitoring for compliance, and transaction processing and approvals.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for pre-award management including budget prep, proposal preparation, and internal and external proposal routing. Identifies opportunities to share with faculty members, and provides guidance to junior staff on pre-award best practices
  • Responsible for financial projections. Advises faculty on long-term financial viability of department / center given multiple grants and contracts from various sources with differing project end dates. Provides guidance to junior staff on best practices.
  • In addition to individual project budgets, maintains program and lab level budgets and projects to inform the faculty member on longer term lab sustainability to inform hiring and other spending decisions.
  • Monitors for compliance by reviewing transactions, proposal contracts, Data Use Agreements (DUAs), and other items to ensure they comply with relevant policy including institutional and funder expectations. Provides guidance to junior staff on best practices.
  • Monitors transactions processing including monitoring and updating effort allocations, processing and maintaining contracts, and making other accounting adjustments as needed. Provides guidance to junior staff on best practices.

General Responsibilities

  • Advises faculty on long-term financial viability of department/center given multiple grants and contracts from various sources with differing project end dates.
  • Locates and identifies sources of outside funding on own accord.
  • Develops budget proposals and monitors the resulting awards received for academic and research projects and programs.
  • Interprets regulations and guidelines of multiple programs funding with complex and broad guidelines for spending.
  • Evaluates contract compliance and advises others on contractual rights and obligations.
  • Requests or approves amendments to contract terms or contract extensions.
  • Prepares bids or request for proposals (RFPs), including specifications and requirements; negotiates contract terms and participates in the determination of acceptable bids.
  • Ensures compliance with sponsor terms, university policies/procedures and federal/state regulations.
