Contracts Specialist I, Business Contracts
Job Summary
The Contracts Specialist I provides proficient contracting knowledge and skills to ensure the completion of various University business contract projects in compliance with applicable state laws and University policies and procedures. This position coordinates and administers conventional business contract projects across a wide range of services, determines the disposition of conventional contracting issues, and refers non-conventional matters to a superior.
Core Responsibilities
- Reviews, edits, and redrafts conventional business agreements and associated documents for the University. Analyzes, reviews, and redlines for a superior's review of the terms and conditions of agreements to ensure the protection of the University, compliance with applicable state laws, UT System policies, and University regulations.
- Facilitates contract negotiation processes and guides University representatives in negotiations of standard and conventional business contracts, with supervisor direction on non-conventional issues.
- Functions as a liaison between the University departments and related contracting entities, and establishes and maintains internal/external relations with contractors and other business entities and organizations.
- Reviews scopes of work associated with conventional business contracts; coordinates with applicable University departments to establish scope clarity, and performs revisions as necessary to secure the best interests of the University.
- Coordinates with the Purchasing Office and other applicable University departments to ensure compliance with institutional, system, and state requirements related to contracting, and advises administrators and staff regarding contractual requirements.
- Monitors, investigates, and performs problem resolution on conventional business contracting issues.
- Analyzes risk and efficiency factors in determining contractual requirements.
- Promotes and develops end-user understanding of contracting procedures and processes through training and direct interaction.
- Performs contracting research and analysis, as well as certain limited legal research and analysis, as required to facilitate contract execution.
- Maintains proper contracting files, records, and associated documentation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
