Coordinator of Recreation, Wellness and Esports
Responsible for the operational, administrative and programmatic aspects of a comprehensive recreational sports program including facility management, informal recreation, club sports, intramural and extramural sports, outdoor recreation, as well as supporting special event offerings within the Student Life department. Additionally, provides oversight for the intercollegiate Esports Program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Responsibilities may evolve based on organizational needs, and similar or related tasks may be assigned as necessary. Management reserves the right to assign additional duties as required.
- Administers a college-wide Recreation and Wellness program to include fitness, weight-training, club sports, outdoor recreation, wellness, informal recreation, and special related events.
- Provides day-to-day oversight for the intercollegiate Esports athletic program which includes coaching, recruitment, academic support and compliance with relevant competitive leagues and associations.
- Manages the Fitness Center and multi-purpose exercise room, including repairs of existing equipment and purchasing of new equipment.
- Recruits, trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates all student employees (Fitness Center Attendants, Esport Monitors and Club-Sports/Intramural Assistants).
- Schedules and promotes all club leagues, tournaments, and events; mostly conducted on evenings and weekends.
- Manages all club sports, Esports, and special event activities; primarily on evenings and weekends.
- Maintains, tracks, and orders all sport, outdoor recreation, and fitness equipment and supplies, including but not limited to: weights, machines, kayaks, bicycles, camping equipment, etc.
- Tracks league standings and relevant statistics.
- Completes accident and incident reports as necessary.
- Maintains appropriate certifications (first aid, CPR, kayak, etc).
- Conducts relevant trainings for Public Safety and Fitness Center Staff including First Aid Certifications, and CPR Classes.
- Coordinates, implements, and conducts programs and seminars in all areas of Health and Wellness for students, faculty, and staff.
- Establishes and promotes monthly wellness themes that correspond with student needs and issues.
- Develops and maintains a fitness and wellness incentive program for the entire college community.
- Develop and promote a competitive intramural/extramural program, training student staff to help administer and referee each event.
- Maintains social media and relevant website information for Recreation, Wellness and Esports programs, activities and leagues with up-to-date postings.
- Establishes, enforces and insures safety and liability standards for department events and programs.
- Conducts periodic assessments and produces reports as needed.
- Monitors the Recreation, Wellness and Esports budget.
- Serves as a member of the Student Life staff team, assisting with major College and Student Life events as necessary.
- Hires and supervises all instructors for Fitness Programs and Coaches for Esports.
- Prepares and submits accreditation reports as requested by the Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness.
- Serves on College committees as appropriate.
- Stays abreast of current trends in College Recreation and Wellness.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean and/or Senior Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students in support of the College Mission.
- Oversees and supervises contracted services related to Recreation, Wellness and Esports.
- Work with local colleges to establish extramural sporting competitions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Must possess strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to relate effectively to a diversity of students, faculty and staff, especially understanding the culture of artists and designers.
- Demonstrated commitment to development of the whole student.
- Strong program development experience.
- Knowledge of best practices and required practices related to fitness, weight-training, intramurals, recreation and personal wellness programs.
- Knowledge of best practices and compliance practices relative to intercollegiate Esports programs.
- Ability to work collaboratively with enthusiasm, perseverance and a sense of humor.
- Computer proficiency including knowledge of hardware and software used in an office environment such as word processing, automated spreadsheets, and e-mail.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Sports Management/Administration, Recreational Management, or other relevant discipline and experience in recreational programs and services and/or health/wellness programming.
- 3 years’ experience in collegiate Recreational and Wellness programming.
- CPR, First Aid, and other relevant related certifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience with Intercollegiate Esports programs.
- Membership in relevant professional association(s).
