This position operates in a laboratory and animal facility setting and requires adherence to institutional safety and animal care policies.

Duties And Responsibilities

Scientific & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of transgenic and genome-editing technologies (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9, ES cell targeting, conditional alleles).
  • Direct rederivation services (e.g., embryo transfer, IVF-based rederivation) to ensure colony health and biosecurity.
  • Oversee sperm and embryo cryopreservation services, including experimental design, execution, quality control, and recovery validation.
  • Provide expert consultation to investigators on experimental design, feasibility, timelines, and model selection.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and drive continuous improvement of facility capabilities.

Facility & Operations Management

  • Direct day-to-day operations of the transgenic mouse facility, including scheduling, workflow optimization, and resource allocation.
  • Oversee colony management strategies in coordination with animal care and veterinary teams at CM.
  • Oversee a centralized cryobank, including inventory control, database management, labelling, storage integrity, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Develop and enforce SOPs for cryopreservation, thawing, reanimation, and long-term storage.
  • Develop and manage facility budgets, pricing, and capital equipment planning.
  • Establish and maintain SOPs to ensure efficiency, quality, and reproducibility.

Financial Management & Cost Recovery

  • Develop and manage facility budgets, recharge rates, and service pricing.
  • Oversee the collection of annual cryostorage fees for sperm and embryo samples and ensure transparent communication of costs and policies to investigators.
  • Monitor cost recovery, utilization metrics, and long-term financial sustainability of the facility and cryobank operations.
  • Participate in capital planning for specialized equipment and infrastructure.

Personnel Management

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor facility staff, promoting technical excellence and a collaborative culture.
  • Ensure staff proficiency in advanced reproductive technologies, cryopreservation methods, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure full compliance with institutional, local, and federal regulations (IACUC, AAALAC, animal welfare standards).
  • Maintain accurate records for transgenic production, rederivation, cryopreservation, and storage activities.
  • Collaborate with veterinary, compliance, and biosafety teams to maintain high standards of animal health and data integrity.

Collaboration & Institutional Engagement

  • Serve as a key liaison between the facility and the research community.
  • Contribute to grant applications, publications, and institutional initiatives involving mouse model development.
