CORE LAB TECH, School of Medicine, Genetics, Molecular
As a member of the Molecular Genetics Core, the Core technician operates state-of-the-art genetic analysis instruments to provide experimental date to investigators across the medical campus in a fee-for-service environment. Extracts DNA/RNA from various tissues, primarily blood, and stores for genetic analysis. Performs quantitation and quality control. Logs and tracks samples using barcode and network databases. Must be comfortable handling bloods according to established safety procedures. Maintains laboratory equipment and workspace. Pilot work for new projects including assay design and development of new technologies. Performed under the general supervision of the Core Manager. Performs genotyping reactions. Optimizes PCR-based assays. Utilizes robotic liquid handling stations and high-throughput thermal cyclers to conduct large-volume projects. Operates automated DNA genotyping equipment. Performs sample preparation and data analysis.

Required Skills
