CSAE Postdoctoral Research Fellow

The postholder will join Professor Stefan Dercon, Dr Rocco Zizzamia and Dr Noam Angrist as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE), an internationally renowned development economics research centre at the University of Oxford. The fellow will contribute to an active portfolio of research on a) the resilience of education systems to climatic shocks and b) the returns to education in developing countries. The research programme combines rigorous quantitative methods – including field experiments, quasi-experimental designs, and analysis of large-scale administrative, survey, and geospatial data – with close engagement with governments and international organisations.

The postholder will work across a combination of ongoing research projects and the development of a new research agenda with the principal investigators. On existing projects, they will lead study design, data analysis, and the writing of research papers at various stages from inception through to publication. Alongside this, the fellow will be expected to build up a core research agenda with the PIs, broadly around climate-education resilience – developing new research questions, designing studies, seeking funding, and producing original research outputs. The fellow will work closely with the principal investigators, doctoral students, and other research staff, and will be expected to take intellectual ownership of their contributions and to develop an independent research profile within the team’s programme.
