CVPA Academic Advisor
The College of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of North Carolina Greensboro is seeking an Academic Advisor. The Undergraduate Advisor is part of a three-person Student Success Team in CVPA and reports to the Director of Undergraduate Advising and Student Success. The position is a fulltime, 12-month position. The Undergraduate Advisor’s primary responsibility will be devoted to advising and advocating for a unique population of approximately 175 first-year students each academic year and serving as a transition advisor to transfer students as they enter the institution. To complete these tasks effectively and efficiently, the Undergraduate Advisor must develop and implement knowledge of undergraduate curriculum requirements, academic policies and procedures, and an understanding of advising best practices. Advising requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to listen actively. In particular, the advisor must cultivate a deep knowledge of entry-level art courses, fields within the arts, and paths that arts students may choose to take. Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree within one year of accepting the role in one of the disciplines taught within the College or in academic advising, higher education, counseling, or other related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1+ years of academic advising experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to listen actively.
- Ability to collaborate in a team and to work independently.
- Ability to think creatively to support a diverse set of scholar artists.
- Ability to problem solve and to work in a rapidly changing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree.
- 3+ years of academic advising experience.
- Experience with technologies used at UNCG, including DegreeWorks, Banner Student, and/or Starfish.
- Experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate levels and demonstrated commitment to ongoing development of diversity competencies such as racial literacy and culturally responsive pedagogy.
