Overview
Data Science is concerned with the problem of finding patterns and creating value from vast streams of data in the context of a data domain.
The Data Science program from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) combines statistics, computer science, mathematics, and design theory with the business acumen to explore data sets, gather insights, visualize results, and communicate meaningful findings to stakeholders taking into consideration underlying ethical and legal aspects.
Creative problem solvers
Candidates for the PDEng Data Science are creative problem solvers with excellent technical skills, team players with eagerness to learn and with attitude that shows the responsibility for quality and quantity of knowledge gained. They have a solid background in Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, and strong affinity with Data Science.
A Data Science graduate:
- Properly applies techniques from statistics, computer science, and mathematics in a variety of data domains.
- Shows curiosity with the desire to discover, distill, and model a problem down to a clear set of concepts and hypotheses to be tested.
- Uses data to tell a story and communicate that story effectively to stakeholders.
- Demonstrates cleverness to look at a problem in different creative ways.
- Collaborates in teams and with a variety of stakeholders to get optimal results.

Admission requirements
Academic requirements
We are not aware of any specific GRE, GMAT or GPA grading score requirements for this programme.
English requirements
- TOEFL® iBT: 90. TOEFL iBT® is accepted by more than 13,000 universities and other institutions in over 160 countries. The test can be taken at a test center or at home. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.
- IELTS: 6.5. The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading).
Other requirements
General requirements
- If you enjoy problem-solving, teamwork, and have strong technical skills, you might be a good candidate for our program.
- You should have an MSc in Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science from an accredited institution like Eindhoven University of Technology, UTwente, Wageningen University or Tilburg University. Tuition Fees
There is no tuition fee for the Engineering Doctorate in Data Science program.
Living costs
Eindhoven, Netherlands: 1,375-2,184 AUD / month. The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.
