Job Description

Under the direction of the Vice President of Instruction, the Dean of Career Education provides visionary leadership in support of workforce development resources. The Dean supervises assigned academic and classified personnel and coordinates career educational programs, resources, and budgets.

The Career Education Dean oversees ten major departments within the division:

  • Automotive Technology
  • Business and Professional Studies
  • Center for Water Studies
  • Computer and Information Science & Computer Science
  • Graphic Design
  • CADD and Advanced Manufacturing
  • Child Development
  • Environmental Health and Safety Management
  • Ornamental Horticulture
  • Surveying

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to: Master's degree from an accredited institution plus five years of achievement in higher education management, supervision, or leadership, with emphasis in one or more of the areas to which the Dean position is assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate a commitment to and support of Cuyamaca College's vision, mission, and values in the CE Division's programs and services and within the institution.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and support of diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility in support of student success and retention.
  • Manage, plan, coordinate, and evaluate division programs in accordance with legal requirements, district policies, state guidelines, and sound instructional principles and practices.
  • Communicate statutes, college policies, procedures, and philosophies to assigned staff and to other college employees and students when appropriate.
  • Assist with hiring, evaluation, and retention of assigned faculty and staff according to statutes and Governing Board policy; plan and coordinate orientation and in-service education for professional development of program faculty and staff; assign certificated and classified staff to work areas, hours, and duties.
  • Facilitate the resolution of student, instructor, and staff conflicts and problems.
  • Prepare budgets and submit through appropriate channels for approval; monitor and control assigned program-operating budgets; initiate special fund requests; determine need and priority for capital equipment and materials.
  • Serve as a member of district, site or other local and regional committees and task forces.
  • Support underperforming programs by analysis of student learning outcomes and program review, providing innovation and resources including timelines and goals.
  • Co-chair the WorkForce Development Committee.
  • Coordinate program review and planning, curriculum development and outcomes assessment for the division.
