Dean for the Division of Liberal Arts

SUNY Schenectady County Community College seeks a Dean for the Division of Liberal Arts. Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the dean is responsible for the overall management of the Liberal Arts Division. The dean is responsible for supervising and evaluating faculty, scheduling, and overseeing the administration of bargaining agreements. The dean is integral to the division of Academic Affairs and assists in the strategic planning and formulation of policies within it. As part of the Academic Affairs Leadership Team, the dean represents and supports faculty interests and initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibility

The incumbent does have supervisory responsibility for full-time and adjunct faculty and support staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Division of Academic Affairs in formulating policies
  • Supervise full-time and adjunct faculty in this division
  • Recruit full-time and adjunct faculty
  • Administer bargaining agreements and provide oversight of faculty and support-staff
  • Maintain annual evaluations and faculty professional development plans
  • Coordinate and implement onboarding of full-time and adjunct-faculty
  • Collaborate and plan with other division deans within Academic Affairs
  • Lead and coordinate assignment of faculty to participate in mandatory divisional activities to include program reviews, course outline updates, program updates, and assessment activities
  • Plan and manage: divisional meetings; the assignment and coordination of faculty on college committees; new program development; and the academic plan for the division
  • Work with industry to collaborate on programs and to provide student internships and field experiences
  • Maintain and oversee divisional assessment activities
  • Schedule all division courses in collaboration with the VP to include day/evening and online sections
  • Maintain and oversee articulation agreements
  • Plan and collaborate with SUNY Schenectady's College in the High School
  • Participate in student orientation, open houses, and information nights
  • Coordinate assignment of faculty and staff to participate in new and general student registration
  • Oversee and manage dispute resolution between students and divisional faculty
  • Lead the development and maintenance of annual department budget
  • Coordinate the use of related divisional facilities
  • Lead in planning for facilities, equipment, and staffing needs based on strategic planning initiatives
  • Participate in strategic planning
  • Serve as the Evening Administrator for at least one week per semester
  • Collaborate with VPAA to determine cost effectiveness of program/section offerings
  • Plan and coordinate with divisions on all credit programming, including off-site activities
  • Other duties as assigned by the VPAA

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a liberal arts field
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
  • College teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting
  • Evidence of leadership experience in an academic setting
  • Demonstrated experience with the development and management of a budget
  • Demonstrated experience with academic assessment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in a related liberal arts field

Additional Information:

Salary: $82,346
