Dean of the Graduate School at Coastal Carolina University
The Position
The next Dean of the Graduate School at Coastal Carolina University will be an experienced individual who will provide vision, direction, and leadership to define and build this new academic unit. The Dean will report to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and serve as a member of the Provost’s leadership team and a strategic partner in shaping graduate education across the institution. The Dean will oversee a team of five (5) including the Associate Dean, Graduate and Special Populations Enrollment Coordinator, Administrative Coordinator/Budget Manager, Marketing Coordinator, and Student Success Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for the Graduate School, advancing a vision aligned with university priorities for graduate enrollment growth, student success, academic quality, and institutional advancement.
- Lead the expansion and refinement of master’s and doctoral program portfolios using data-informed, market-responsive strategies that reflect workforce demand, regional needs, and CCU’s academic strengths.
- Champion the development and quality of in-person, online and hybrid graduate programs, ensuring appropriate academic standards, student support systems, and sustainable faculty workload models.
- Serve as a collaborative, service-oriented partner to academic colleges, building strong relationships with deans, chairs, and faculty while establishing centralized policies, processes, and administrative support structures.
- Advocate for graduate students and enhance enrollment strategy by partnering with enrollment management on recruitment, marketing, and yield efforts, while ensuring graduate student needs are represented in campus-wide planning and services.
- Strengthen the role of graduate education in supporting research productivity and doctoral culture, collaborating with academic colleges and research leadership to advance research goals.
Required Qualifications
- An earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
- A history of demonstrated achievement in furthering the role of graduate education at a university.
- Experience of administrative leadership in graduate education, including program planning and development, assessment, new program approval, budgeting, student support, and/or enrollment management.
- History of collaboration with deans and faculty colleagues to cultivate and grow graduate programming and enrollment.
- Experience related to fiscal and budgetary management related to graduate education including budgeting, revenue and cost projections, enrollment targets, and support.
- Ability to grow online programs, particularly master’s programs in high workforce needs areas.
- Experience with PhD programs and ability to foster their success.
- Experience managing people and the ability to facilitate teamwork among faculty, staff, and students.
