Join a team at the forefront of veterinary medicine. Our Dermatology service provides leading-edge care for patients with complex disorders of the skin, ears, mouth, hair, and claws. We are looking for a dedicated professional who thrives in a fast-paced teaching environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional patient outcomes.

The Impact You'll Make
As a vital member of the Dermatology team, you will bridge the gap between advanced diagnostics and compassionate care. You'll work in tandem with specialized groups in CT, ultrasound, and radiography to ensure a seamless experience for our patients and their families.

Primary Responsibilities:

Clinical Excellence & Patient Care

  • Advanced Diagnostics: Perform and support skin scrapings, allergy testing, ear flushes, and biopsies.
  • Anesthesia & Surgery: Provide robust anesthesia monitoring, prepare patients using aseptic techniques, and maintain sterile surgical environments.
  • Technical Proficiency: Execute venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sedative/treatment injections, and bandaging.
  • Critical Thinking: Perform moderate-risk drug calculations (CRI, IV fluids, pain management) and monitor patients with Atopic Dermatitis, Autoimmune Skin Disease, and Chronic Otitis.
  • Recovery: Lead post-sedation and post-anesthesia recovery, ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Coordination & Communication

  • Client Advocacy: Facilitate seamless communication between clients, referring veterinarians (rDVM), and internal hospital staff.
  • Workflow Leadership: Manage patient admissions, scheduling, and medical record data within hospital information systems.
  • Financial Stewardship: Oversee procedural charges, billing communications, and estimate updates.

Teaching & Mentorship

  • Educational Support: Coach and orient new staff, students, interns, and residents on hospital policies and gold-standard patient care.

Requirements & Physical Demands

  • Expertise: In-depth knowledge of veterinary medicine and specialized patient care equipment (IV pumps, Pulse Oximeters, BP monitors).
  • Environment: A strong desire to work in a fast paced, ever-changing teaching hospital.
  • Compliance: Strict adherence to OSHA, EHS, radiation safety, and infectious disease protocols.
  • Physical Ability: Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Experience/Education:
Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require additional Training, Certifications, or Licensure.

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a canine / feline veterinary setting.
  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively at all times and maintain professionalism in emotionally charged / challenging situations.
  • Ability to provide high quality customer service.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work beyond scheduled work hours when needed.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and be an active participant in problem solving and team advancement.
  • Ability to work effectively with computers and electronics.
  • Ability to work independently and practice good judgment to ensure high quality care for all patients and request assistance when needed.
  • Desire to teach 4th year veterinary students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical Experience: Previous experience as a veterinary technician in a clinical or specialty setting.
  • Advanced Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with specialized diagnostic procedures (such as skin scrapings and allergy testing) and advanced technical skills including IV catheter placement, venipuncture, and anesthesia monitoring.
  • Critical Care Calculations: Proficiency in performing complex medical calculations, including Constant Rate Infusions (CRI), IV fluid therapy, and pain management dosages.
  • Clinical Mentorship: Experience coaching or orienting veterinary students, interns, or new staff members within a teaching hospital environment.
  • Case Coordination: Demonstrated ability to manage complex patient workflows, including coordinating with diagnostic departments (CT, Ultrasound, Radiography) and facilitating communication between clients and referring veterinarians.

Required license or certification:

  • Licensed/Registered/Certified by any state.
  • Graduation from an AVMA fully accredited two- or four-year Veterinary Technician program.
