Designing microbial sinks for psychopharmaceutical remediation in wastewater systems
About the Project
This project is being advertised as part of the Engineering Biology for Environmental Applications Doctoral Focal Award, led by Cranfield University. The project carries a UKRI TechExpert enhanced annual stipend of £31,805 available to students with Home fee status.
Project Description
Psychopharmaceuticals, including antidepressants, antipsychotics and anxiolytics, are widely recognised as emerging environmental contaminants. ... By concentrating pollutants into microbial biomass, this approach also supports future development of a circular model in which the captured compounds can later be extracted for re-use.
Lead supervisor: Dr. Fatima C. Pereira, Lecturer in Molecular & Cellular Bioscience, School of Biological Sciences, University of Southampton.
This project is offered by University of Southampton. Due to funding restrictions, this project is only open to students eligible for Home rate fees.
