The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

Are you a developer who enjoys building, experimenting, and turning ideas into working solutions quickly? We’re offering an exciting opportunity to join AUT’s AI Acceleration Centre team and help shape the future of how students and staff engage with technology.

As a Developer, you will work on real, high-impact initiatives across AI and digital experience. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys rapid prototyping, modern tooling, and a practical approach to delivery. We value people who can move from concept to working product quickly, test with users, and continuously improve.

You’ll work alongside experienced developers to build scalable, user-focused platforms, contributing to solution design and implementation within established architecture and standards. You’ll take ownership of components and deliver high-quality outcomes, while continuing to grow your capability in modern development and AI-assisted delivery practices.

You’ll join a supportive and innovative team that is exploring new approaches to software delivery, including AI-assisted development, rapid prototyping, and cloud-native technologies. This is a great opportunity to contribute to meaningful initiatives that have visible impact across the University.

You will:

  • Contribute to the design, build, and deployment of solutions within established architecture and development standards
  • Develop and maintain APIs, integrations, and cloud-based applications
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate on new ideas, moving from concept to working solutions
  • Work on well-defined problem areas, contributing to solutions within a broader delivery context
  • Collaborate closely with users and product teams to test and improve solutions
  • Apply modern development tools and AI-assisted workflows to deliver value efficiently
  • Participate in agile delivery, peer reviews, and continuous improvement practices
  • Produce well-documented, tested, and reliable code in line with team standards
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and contribute ideas for improving delivery and capability

About you | Ko wai koe

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
  • Around 3 years’ experience in a software development role
  • Experience with programming languages such as C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar languages
  • Understanding of modern software development practices including version control, agile delivery, testing, and continuous integration
  • Experience or exposure to cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS
  • Familiarity with APIs, web frameworks, microservices, and frontend technologies
  • Interest in AI, automation, and emerging developer tooling including AI-assisted development and rapid prototyping
  • Ability to work across a range of technologies and pick up new tools quickly
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a proactive and practical mindset

Salary Ranges | Ngā Utu: $76,000 - $102,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)
