Digital Accessibility Senior Specialist
The University of Maryland, Baltimore's Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) has an opportunity for a contractual Digital Accessibility Senior Specialist (Senior IT Instructional Technology Specialist). The Digital Accessibility Senior Specialist will accomplish responsibilities by applying specialized and theoretical knowledge, principles, and concepts of a professional discipline normally acquired through advanced education or specialized training. The Senior Specialist resolves issues and significant matters on behalf of management by utilizing independent judgment, discretion, creativity, and analytical thinking. Contributes to development and evaluation of goals and objectives. They create solutions to ensure legal and policy compliance. This role may supervise, mentor, or coordinate work of others (positions that supervise are responsible for service delivery, quality assurance, and employee performance). May independently manage or administer programs, processes, projects, or resources.
The Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is dedicated to advancing evidence-based teaching, learning, and evaluation practices across the University community. As a central resource for all UMB schools, the center provides support and resources for faculty to enhance their teaching and improve student learning outcomes.
Primary Duties
- Develops instructional materials using a variety of available technologies, such as: digital images/audio, PowerPoint and other presentation software, enterprise learning applications, and distance learning (DL) technologies, such as: satellite television and IP audio and video over the internet. Supports staff in instructional design projects. Provides direction to faculty, staff, and students in the use of learning applications.
- Develops online, web based, interactive in nature learning applications.
- Designs and conducts formal presentations in the use of specific technology.
- Provides guidance and direction in the use of audio/visual, multimedia, video production, and IT equipment as appropriate.
- Collaborates with departmental staff in the design and customization of curriculum and assists in the development of training plans and blended learning implementation strategies.
- Develops multi-media materials and eLearning application for staff use.
- Plans the acquisition and implementation of new instructional technologies.
- May remediate digital content for accessibility (e.g., documents, LMS content, multimedia) in alignment with established standards such as WCAG, WCAG 2.0 or higher, Section 508, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in field and/or related field, such as Graphic or Instructional Design. Master's degree preferred.
Experience: Three (3) years related experience which includes proficiency with audio/visual, multimedia, video production, or IT resources. Experience in remediating digital content for accessibility (e.g., documents, LMS content, multimedia) in alignment with established standards such as WCAG, WCAG 2.0 or higher, Section 508, etc. strongly preferred.
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

Hiring Range: $80,000 - $95,000, commensurate with education and experience.
