Job Summary:
The Director of College Academic Student Services I oversees the academic advising and records functions for a college. Identifies and implements best practices in academic advising. Develops, coordinates, facilitates, and integrates outcome driven efforts in academic advising that support student success, retention, and graduation completion. May handle a student academic advising case load.
Additional Department Summary:
Responsible for leadership and managerial functions to carry out the undergraduate program's mission. The director is the individual accountable for planning, implementing and evaluating the Student Services Department. Leadership functions relate to the broad plan of guiding the Student Services Department in clarifying and affirming values, setting goals, articulating a vision, and charting a course of action to achieve that vision. Managerial functions relate to the actual orchestration of tasks and the setting up of systems to carry out the organization's mission. Human Resources functions would involve recruiting, selecting and orienting personnel and student workers. Also will conduct introductory and annual performance appraisals for staff and student workers. Will ensure that all department aspects are well integrated and functioning smoothly. This position is complex and requires a high degree of problem solving techniques and creative thinking skills. The position also involves considerable organization and people skills as well as requiring the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Work flow can be heavy, and the individual needs to be able to constantly prioritize tasks depending on the need for immediate responses and completion of projects and timelines.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of academic advising or student academic record experience; OR master's degree and six (6) years of academic advising or student academic record experience.
Skills and Knowledge:
Must be able to work with people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Exceptional public speaking skills. Strong ability to analyze and solve problems. Ability to develop and work with a team and multi-task. Sound judgement and ability to use independent judgement. Interpersonal skills to communicate and relate to the college's undergraduate students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Student services experience is preferred, along with training/experience in Banner, Courseleaf and ARGOS.
