Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Position Summary
The Director for Development will report to the Associate Dean for Development. S/he is responsible for personal gift portfolio of 75-100 prospects to include donor identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Also responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of the school’s comprehensive annual giving program designed to expand the donors for the law school and increase the operational annual funds to $1.5 million, and beyond, in support of the law school’s top funding needs. The Director for Development will also manage and oversee at least one of the UNC Law Alumni Association leadership volunteer committee(s). The Director for Development will collaborate closely with the Associate Dean for Development to build a culture of high achievement and accountability across the law school advancement team, as well as strong, professional relationships with the University Development Office and campus partners throughout the University.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.

Ability to interact effectively in a comprehensive environment such as a research university setting; and exhibit the highest standards of professionalism and performance as evidenced by collaborative teamwork, initiative, critical thinking, good judgment, consistency of output, timeliness of follow-through and strength of written and verbal communication skills. Travel and some weekend work are required.

Demonstrated successful major gift fundraising or transferrable experience preferred. Strong preference for applicants with knowledge of and experience at Carolina.
