Florida Polytechnic University, home to the nation’s first 100% digital academic library, seeks an energetic thought partner to help us grow the University Library’s impact in support of our distinctive mission as a STEM-focused, innovation-driven university.
The Director, Library and Information Services, serves as a strategic partner in advancing student learning, supporting faculty research and instructional excellence, and shaping the ethical and effective use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, across the curriculum. This position provides leadership for a fully digital library ecosystem that prioritizes access, discovery, and engagement, and aligns library collections and services with the University’s academic programs, student services, and research priorities. This role includes managing the Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute (FIPRI) library.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities:
Digital Library Strategy and Innovation
- Advance and sustain a cohesive vision for a fully digital academic library that supports the University’s mission and academic priorities.
- Evaluate and implement emerging trends in digital librarianship, scholarly communication, and information technologies, including AI-enabled tools.
- Collaborate with the Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC) and other partners to optimize access to shared digital resources and consortial services.
Student Learning and Academic Engagement
- Partner with faculty and academic units to integrate information literacy, digital literacy, and AI literacy into undergraduate and graduate curricula.
- Design and deliver instructional support, workshops, and learning resources that enhance student research skills and critical evaluation of information.
- Develop online research guides, tutorials, and other digital learning objects to support student success in a flexible, online-first environment.
Collection Development and Research Support
- Align digital collections, databases, and scholarly resources with faculty research agendas and academic program disciplines.
- Provide consultative support to faculty and students related to research design, discovery strategies, data use, copyright, and open scholarship.
- Lead initiatives related to textbooks, affordability, and open educational resources to promote access and student success.
Faculty Instructional Development and Artificial Intelligence
- Collaborate with faculty to support instructional design and the integration of digital and AI-enabled tools into teaching and research.
- Support campus programming and guidance related to the ethical, transparent, and effective use of artificial intelligence in higher education.
- Remain current with innovations in artificial intelligence, educational technology, and digital scholarship to inform library services.
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science program (or equivalent).
- Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in an academic library or higher-education setting.
- In lieu of a degree, any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with digital collections, electronic resources, and online learning environments strongly preferred.
- Experience in a Florida public college or university system is desirable.
- Experience as a STEM librarian.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities KSAs:
- Demonstrated understanding of academic librarianship in a digital-first or fully digital environment.
- Strong commitment to student learning, faculty collaboration, and service excellence.
- Knowledge of current and emerging trends in information literacy, scholarly communication, educational technology, and artificial intelligence.
- Ability to design and deliver instructional and research support in both synchronous and asynchronous formats.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
- Ability to independently initiate projects while also contributing effectively within collaborative and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to foster collaborative relationships with faculty, students, administrators, and external partners in support of institutional goals.
