The Director of Annual Giving oversees the planning, execution, and management of a comprehensive, multi-faceted annual giving program. This position plays a pivotal role in engaging diverse donor segments, including alumni, parents, friends, employees, students, and organizations. The Director is responsible for designing innovative fundraising campaigns, analyzing performance, and fostering a culture of philanthropy that supports the university’s priorities.
Essential Duties Summary
Strategic Leadership
- Develops and implements a centralized, multi-channel annual giving strategy, aligning campaigns with university goals.
- Creates compelling campaigns utilizing direct mail, email, digital platforms, crowdfunding, peer-to-peer fundraising, and phone-a-thon programs.
Project Management
- Manages all aspects of annual giving operations, including budget, vendor contracts, procurement, and production schedules.
- Tracks campaign performance and provide data-driven insights for continuous improvement.
Donor Engagement and Stewardship
- Designs innovative donor engagement initiatives to increase participation and retention.
- Works collaboratively with DOD Marketing and Communications to develop content and collateral for campaigns, including social media posts, emails, brochures, and multimedia assets.
- Organize donor recognition events to foster meaningful connections.

Hiring Range: $87,339.81 - $111,358.25
Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

- Demonstrated ability to build meaningful relationships.
- Skilled in omnichannel direct marketing and fundraising appeals.
- Creative thinker with a commitment to innovation in philanthropy.
- Deep understanding of annual giving principles and donor engagement strategies.
- Commitment to the mission and vision of Texas Southern University.
Work Experience
- Four (4) years in annual giving, direct marketing, or project management.
- Proficiency with fundraising software and CRM systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge).
- Strong written and oral communication skills with a command of English grammar and punctuation.
- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
- Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.
Working/Environmental Conditions
- Limited standing and/or walking.
- Handling light weight objects.
- Using or carrying equipment.
- Ability to stoop, bend, or lift.
- May require routine travel.
