Director of Athletics
The Director of Athletics is the chief administrator for the University's comprehensive Division I intercollegiate athletics program and establishes policies and procedures that achieve the parallel goals of development of quality, competitive athletics teams and support of the individual educational goals of student-athletes. The Director ensures University compliance with applicable National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), athletic conferences and University rules and regulations governing all facets of intercollegiate athletics programs. The Director supervises a staff of athletic coaches, professional and support personnel, develops and manages operating budgets for the intercollegiate athletics program, and participates in fund-raising activities as appropriate.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
North Carolina A&T State University is a member of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA), an NCAA Division I conference whose member institutions compete at a high level in both academics and athletics. The Director will lead an intercollegiate athletic program for men and women, including basketball, baseball, football, bowling, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. The men's and women's programs compete at the Division I level with football competing at the Division l-AA level.
Requirements:
North Carolina A&T State University requires an earned bachelor's degree with preference for a master's degree and coaching experience; a minimum of 5 years of progressively increasing management and leadership at a Division I institution. The Director of Athletics must provide outstanding leadership; collaborate with faculty, staff and students; and develop strong relationships with alumni and other constituents of the University.
Preferred:
Senior leadership experience (e.g., Athletic Director, Deputy AD, or equivalent executive role) at a Division I institution or professional sports organization;
Demonstrated success leading major fundraising campaigns ($50M+);
Experience negotiating or managing media rights, sponsorships, or NIL platforms;
Proven ability to elevate brand visibility on a national scale;
Strong relationships across NCAA leadership, conferences, media, and corporate partners.
