The School of Public Health - Bloomington (SPH-B) is the third largest school on the Bloomington campus, with over 4,000 undergraduate students and over 500 graduate students enrolled in a given academic year, 220 faculty, and 130 staff in 5 departments (Applied Health Science, Environmental and Occupational Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Health and Wellness Design, and Kinesiology). Several research and service centers operate within and across these units.

Job Summary
The Director of Business Operations provides strategic leadership and coordination of administrative operations across 5 academic departments within the Indiana University School of Public Health - Bloomington. Working closely with department chairs, administrative staff, and the Dean's Office, this position promotes operational excellence, consistency, and collaboration in support of the school's academic and administrative mission. The Director serves as a key liaison between the Dean's Office and departments, enhancing communication, streamlining processes, and ensuring effective implementation of school-wide priorities and initiatives.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Supervises and supports daily operations of the team, ensuring high-quality service delivery and achievement of operational goals.
- Monitors staff performance, establishes priorities, conducts evaluations, and provides coaching, feedback, and corrective action when needed.
- Identifies process improvement opportunities, develops solutions, and implements changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Coordinates staffing schedules, ensures appropriate coverage, and participates in hiring, onboarding, and employment-related decisions.
- Trains, mentors, and develops team members by providing guidance, resources, and opportunities for professional growth.
- Communicates operational trends, challenges, and significant issues to leadership while recommending strategies for continuous improvement.
General Responsibilities
- Provides day-to-day operational management of support staff.
- Establishes short-term operational objectives.
- Identifies operational issues and/or areas of improvement and implements solutions to improve processes and/or operational efficiency.
- Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned staff; establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews, and provides corrective action as needed.
- Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; participates and informs employment decisions for assigned staff.
- Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and activities; impacts, and is held accountable for the performance of the team and/or assigned staff.
- Ensures and provides training to assigned staff to improve user support operations; researches and identifies development opportunities for assigned staff.
- Keeps next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant problems.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in business, management or related field.
