Director of Communication Services
Job Summary
Works cooperatively and in alignment with the System and the System Communications Office and is responsible for marketing and promotion of the College, advancing community engagement events, and supervising related staff
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for the planning, directing, and coordinating all aspects of the Colleges community engagement efforts, marketing, and communications activities, including producing collateral in coordination with and in support of the Systems goals and objectives.
- Responsible for the development of a comprehensive marketing plan that meets the Colleges goals in alignment with the strategic priorities of the institution.
- Responsible for designing and producing collateral for the College, including regular publications for internal College audiences, in alignment with System standards.
- Work with President to develop College-specific marketing programs and enhance awareness within the community.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of relationships with key media representatives (e.g., reporters, editors, managers, newspapers and community relations personnel, technicians and staff).
- Work with local community media to promote and advertise College activities, services, programmatic offerings and successes.
- Act as College liaison to the media, under the direction of the President and in accordance with System protocols.
- Work with appropriate College personnel in developing promotional materials; including obtaining required information and photography for inclusion into relevant messages while ensuring that all College collateral and messaging conforms to HCC brand standards via the brand review/approval process.
- Responsible for speech writing and special events management, as directed by the President.
- Supervise the work of the Community Outreach Coordinator and Office Assistant at the College and maintain a list of community leaders, associations and/or groups, and media personnel for the effective use of the College.
- Prepare regular evaluations of the Colleges communications, marketing and public relations with recommendations to President and Associate Vice Chancellor of Communications & Marketing.
- Incorporate use and reporting of metrics to assess, compare, and track performance of marketing campaigns, community engagement events, and other relevant work, which advance the College and its goals including, but not limited to increase of enrollment, retention, transfer, and graduation rates.
- Meet regularly with relevant personnel (Associate Vice Chancellor for Communications & Marketing, other Directors of Communication Services and others) to strategically assess opportunities with the intent of incorporating the same for the benefit of students at the respective Colleges and the System.
- Participate in various external organizations (e.g., chambers, associations, business groups) and share knowledge acquired to enhance the institutions standing in the community.
- Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Public Affairs or a related field required
- 5 years experience in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Public Affairs, or a similar field required
- Experience in writing and publishing feature stories and news releases preferred
Licensing & Certification
- Valid Texas Driver License

Working Conditions
General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
