The Director of Operations for the Koeppel Community Sports Center provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and administrative management of Trinity College's ice arena and associated facility operations. Working closely with the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Chief of Staff and Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations and other campus stakeholders, the Director oversees day-to-day arena operations while developing long-term plans that support varsity athletics, recreation, campus events, and community engagement. The Director serves as the primary administrator for the Koeppel Community Sports Center and is responsible for ensuring the facility operates at the highest standards of safety, service, and operational excellence
Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Koeppel Community Sports Center, ensuring the facility is maintained in a safe, efficient, and high-quality operating condition.
- Manage and maintain all ice-making, refrigeration, resurfacing, and related arena systems to ensure safe and professional ice conditions for varsity athletics, recreation, community programming, and special events.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate facility usage, including athletic practices and competitions, campus events, tournaments, external rentals, camps, clinics, and community programs.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate full-time, part-time, seasonal, and student staff while establishing operational standards and promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and customer service.
- Develop and administer facility operating budgets; monitor expenditures, manage purchasing and vendor relationships, and recommend capital improvements and equipment replacement needs.
- Oversee preventative maintenance programs and coordinate repairs, projects, contractors, and service providers to ensure the reliability and long-term performance of facility systems and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to facility operations, risk management, environmental practices, and emergency preparedness.
- Serve as the primary liaison for external partners, community organizations, vendors, and facility users while supporting the College's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and enhancing the overall customer experience.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need.
Qualifications
- Vocational or Technical Training, required
- Bachelor's Degree, preferred
- 3-5 years of experience
- Knowledge of ice-making systems, refrigeration equipment, and ice resurfacing operations.
- Understanding of preventive maintenance practices and facility systems management.
- Strong leadership, personnel management, and team-building skills.
- Budget management and fiscal planning experience.
- Excellent customer service and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, coaches, vendors, and community partners.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions during emergencies and facility operations.
