Director of Student Engagement

The Director of Student Engagement works with students, the community, and all across campus to develop and implement student engagement opportunities and programs that foster a sense of belonging, empowerment, and engagement among students. These may include student groups, experiential learning, group activities, workshops, volunteering, leadership programs, intramurals, club sports, etc. The position also coordinates awareness and prevention efforts to promote wellness and oversees the food pantry. In addition to supporting students generally, this position also assists veteran students and guides them through the process of using their military education benefits.
Examples of Duties
- Develop, coordinate, implement, and assess student engagement initiatives across the campus and online.
- Oversee all aspects of student engagement including fundraising, travel, purchasing, scheduling, programming, publicity, procedures, planning, etc.
- Foster increased student participation in on-campus and online activities. May include innovative student activities, new clubs/organizations, or expanded programming.
- Encourage campus-wide involvement by faculty and staff in student engagement activities and club advising.
- Serve as interim advisor for student clubs as needed.
- Collect and report on data related to the assessment of student engagement programming.
- Review and approve student club requests based on college policy and department procedure.
- Develop policies and procedures for club development and operation and provide advisors and club leaders with appropriate oversight and training.
- Coordinate logistical support of club activities including budgeting, purchasing, room and media reservations, marketing, and other requests dependent on club activities.
- Collaborate with Student Services to support orientation, recruitment, and retention initiatives.
- Coordinate marketing and promotion of activities and ensure accurate and timely dissemination.
- Explore community service projects and other opportunities for student involvement.
- Develop, coordinate, implement, and assess institutional compliance activities, awareness campaigns, and/or prevention efforts that meet compliance guidelines (as defined by various governmental agencies).
- Promote student wellness in coordination with internal and external constituents and agency partnerships.
- Oversee the Campus Cupboard, including ordering food and supplies, managing the request system, reporting, and maintaining ServSafe certification.
- Coordinate with Mid's counselor, mentors, faculty, staff, and outside agencies to support students with wellness needs as appropriate.
- Help veterans connect to Student Services and other support services at the College and in the community.
- Provide guidance and assistance to students regarding veteran and dependent benefits.
- Oversee the Veterans Resource Centers to maintain usefulness and support of veterans.
- Monitor and maintain necessary agreements, MOUs, verifications, audits, or reporting required for Mid to provide veteran benefits and services. This position is not the College's School Certifying Official.
- Maintain Mid's status as a veteran-friendly institution and work to reinforce those values across the College.
- Obtain training as necessary and stay current on veteran-related issues.
- Ensure that the values of equity and inclusion are present in all student services efforts to best support student success and retention.
- Set the vision for the department in alignment with the College's strategic priorities.
- Oversee staff and work study students, providing feedback, support, and regular performance reviews.
- Act as budget manager, working with both internal and external sources (including fundraising).
- Collect and analyze data; prepare periodic summaries and evaluative reports or documents, as required.
- Serve on shared governance committees and other designated ad hoc, college standing committees, and professional organizations.
- Support and serve as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service initiatives. Adhere to the organization's policies and procedures, and compliance guidelines.
- Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College's Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.

Typical Qualifications
Education, Certification, Licensure:
- Bachelor's degree required in an Arts and Science, Administration, or related field.
Experience:
- At least one year of professional/managerial experience preferred.
- Previous work experience in a community college environment preferred.
- Strategic planning and program development experience preferred.
- Event planning an activity development experience preferred.
