Director, School of Speech and Hearing Sciences

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Speech and Hearing Sciences, an ASHA/CAA accredited program, invites applicants for a 12-month, Associate or Full Professor, tenure-track faculty position beginning August 3, 2026. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The University of Southern Mississippi is a public research university with its main campus in Hattiesburg and another campus, Gulf Park, in Long Beach. Founded on March 30, 1910, the university is an R1 University comprised of 32 colleges and schools.

The College of Nursing and Health Professions offers educational opportunities for students interested in careers in nursing and health care. The College is comprised of four schools: the School of Health Professions, the School of Leadership and Advanced Nursing Practice, the School of Professional Nursing Practice and the School of Speech and Hearing Sciences.

The School of Speech and Hearing Sciences offers the bachelor's degrees in speech Pathology and Audiology; master’s degrees in Speech-Language Pathology; and the Au.D. in Audiology. The School has two clinical divisions: the DuBard School for Language Disorders and the Children’s Center for Communication and Development.

Reporting to the Dean, College of Nursing and Health Professions, the Director will lead the School of Speech and Hearing Sciences’ academic and clinical units, serve as Superintendent of the DuBard School for Language Disorders and The Children's Center for Communication and Development, and manage the School budget. The Director also oversees hiring practices and faculty development, the preparation of accreditation reports, responding to governing body surveys, and completing faculty evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must hold a PhD or EdD in a professional field related to Speech-Language Pathology and/or Audiology and be at a rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Audiology or Speech-Language Pathology, an EdD, or a terminal degree in a related field. ASHA clinical certification in Audiology (CCC-A) or Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), and qualified to obtain professional licensure in the state of Mississippi. Rank of Professor preferred, although Associate Professors will be considered.
