Position Summary
The Department of Pediatrics at UNC Children’s is recruiting an open-rank, open-track (fixed term, tenure/tenure-track, or variable track) faculty member, who will serve as Division Chief of Pediatric Cardiology to lead and expand the division’s clinical, educational, and research missions. The division provides comprehensive pediatric and congenital cardiology services across the continuum of care, supports a strong culture of clinical excellence and quality improvement, and serves as a central educational resource for the Department of Pediatrics and UNC Children’s Hospital.
The Division Chief oversees all clinical operations, including inpatient and outpatient pediatric cardiology services, advanced cardiac imaging, cardiac catheterization and interventional programs, heart failure and transplant services, fetal cardiology, and care for patients with congenital heart disease across the lifespan. The division plays a critical role in multidisciplinary care of children with complex cardiac conditions and collaborates closely with cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, and other subspecialties.
This leader will join at an exciting time for child health within the UNC Health system as well as in the state of North Carolina. This past year the Children’s Service Line was launched at UNC Health, with the goal of creating systems of care that will improve child health outcomes across the entire UNC Health system, statewide. In addition, planning is underway for North Carolina Children’s Hospital, the first freestanding children’s hospital in the state of North Carolina. This joint effort with Duke Children’s will include a large tertiary/quaternary Congenital Heart program. This Division Chief will play a major role, along with Cardiac and CT surgical leaders at UNC Children’s and Duke Children’s in the organization and launch of this combined program.
The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina is an attractive place to live and work, with a great climate, schools, and both mountains and beaches within a day’s drive. UNC Health has a statewide series of hospitals and clinics and is affiliated with one of the nation’s leading medical schools.
