Offer Description
Objective
The project aims at the efficient recovery of critical raw materials (CRMs) from spent electrodes and their re-use in new sustainable electrocatalysts. Recovery will be performed using a patented hydrometallurgical technology that will be refined to include processing of complex mixtures, aiming at high recycling efficiencies (>90%). The Doctoral Candidate will investigate the effect of the purity and surface characteristics of recycled CRMs on the formation and stability of electrochemical interfaces and contribute to the development of advanced electrocatalysts for HER, CO2RR and ORR. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) will be used to evaluate the environmental impact and sustainability of the developed processes. The project will provide insights into closed-loop processes for the sustainable production and utilization of CRMs aligned with European circular economy objectives.
Expected results
- Electroactive materials re-synthesis from spent electrodes applying a circular economy approach.
- Validation of novel electrocatalysts under industrially relevant conditions.
- Development of sustainable hydrometallurgical routes for CRM recovery.
- Environmental assessment through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
- Contribution to innovative technologies for sustainable CRM valorisation.
