Offer Description
Cancer remains one of the greatest challenges to the EU healthcare systems. Early detection and diagnosis dramatically increases the prospect of successful treatment and survival. Academia and the rapidly growing cancer diagnostics and biosensors sectors have an urgent need for researchers skilled in developing improved screening technologies, which can offer major opportunities to impact cancer survival. However, the development of assays with the required sensitivity, reliability and technology formats for multi-cancer early detection is only recently emerging and faces significant R&D challenges. STRIM will train a cohort of researchers in the multi-disciplinary science, bioinformatics, technology, social, clinical and healtheconomic skills required to deliver comprehensive bioelectronic tools for cancer screening, tools that are fast, accurate, sensitive, and exploit advanced molecular receptors and nanobiotechnologies for detection of aberrant post-translational modifications (PTM) of proteins and nucleic acids as cutting-edge biofluid markers for early detection of cancers. Growing evidence suggests that PTM play important roles in human cancers and are likely to prove highly specific for cancer type. Focusing on both genomic and proteomic PTM biomarkers will be a game-changing strategy for improving early cancer detection rates, efficiency and population health.
Doctoral training in STRIM will encompass state-of-the art approaches for ultra-sensitive detection of PTM biomarkers as cancer screening tools by building on recent advances in electrochemiluminescence, aptamer and DNA microarrays and conducting polymer micro-structured electrodes. These techniques will reach new levels of specificity and overcome barriers to the realization of multiplexed diagnostics for enhanced cancer screening. All translational issues will be considered in harmonization with regulatory and health technology assessment and social acceptability will be screened in the population. The graduates will be ideally placed to enter and support European industry across a number of sectors ((bio)medical, diagnostic devices development and production). They will also be capable of creating new businesses thanks to a combination of in depth training in entrepreneurship and direct experience of establishing and running a virtual company as part of the training network. Beyond the trained researchers, the project will create unique biotechnologies improving the health and well-being of European citizens and intellectual property with a strong commercial potential.

Skills/Qualifications
DC11: We expect a Master´s degree (or equivalent) in Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or Molecular Biology, with excellent academic transcripts. Furthermore, the applicant should be able to perform team-oriented as well as independent work. Candidates must demonstrate full proficiency in spoken and written English; a B2 level certificate of English proficiency is required. Practical experience in one or more of the following subjects will be an asset: Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Molecular Modeling, Computational Biology.

Applicants must fulfill the usual MSCA eligibility and mobility rules.
- Applicants must at the date of recruitment be in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and have not been awarded a doctoral degree.
- The researcher must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of his/her host organization from more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment (short stays, such as holidays, not taken into account).

The successful candidate will be employed on a full-time basis with a competitive salary in accordance with the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) rules and the personal circumstances of the applicant. The successful candidate will receive a financial package consisting of MSCA living allowance and mobility allowance. Eligible applicant with a family will also receive an additional family allowance according to the rules of the MSCA. The exact (net) salary will be confirmed upon appointment and will depend on the Host Institution's local tax regulations and on the country coefficient of your Host institution country.

Selection process
General information for applicants: DC position will also be advertised locally. The candidates need to contact the main supervisor(s) of the position as for specific/local acceptance requirements (e.g. English requirements, minimum grade…). Applications will be welcomed from candidates of any nationality with a proven track record in one of the fields related to the project demonstrated through a Master's degree certificate and appropriate experience. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate extra-academic experience and evidence of creativity and leadership. The Supervisory Board (SB) will grade the candidates on a scale regarding:
- Academic excellence (0-30 points)
- Professional experience (0-10 points)
- Linguistic proficiency in English and /or the languages of his/her Host Institution (0-10 points)
- Publications and other scientific activities (0-20 points)
- Letters of reference (0-10 points).
SB will shortlist candidates, to be interviewed in person or via video conference by the recruiting beneficiary supervisors, who will take the final decision according to the rules of the hosting institution. The successful DCs will then begin their 36 month contracts. The candidates will automatically be informed at each stage of the evaluation process.
