Key Facts
With a duration of three years and 180 ECTS, this program prepares PhD students for leadership roles in academic institutions, the industrial sector, and governmental bodies. It promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation in problem-solving, and the production of research with a positive impact on society.
The Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering is also committed to addressing current societal challenges, notably the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including ensuring access to clean water and sanitation, the sustainable industrialization of the construction sector, issues arising from climate change, energy consumption reduction, promotion of the circular economy, as well as sustainability and digitalization challenges.
Faculty members from the Department of Civil Engineering are integrated into the CERIS research unit, rated as Excellent by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, where knowledge is generated in a creative and innovative environment in which students actively engage and benefit.
