Applications are invited for a DPhil studentship in Synthetic and Physical Organic Chemistry available from October 2026, to work under the supervision of Dr Daniel Congrave in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford.

The studentship will cover course fees at a Home rate and provide a stipend of no less than the standard UK Research Council rate (currently set at £20,780 p.a.) for 4 years. The studentship is funded by the European Research Council. The research is interdisciplinary and will encompass the design, synthesis and investigation of new luminescent organic materials. The aim is to make fundamental progress to facilitate a new generation of materials with implications in a wide range of applications, particularly optoelectronics (e.g. solar panels, sensing and displays).

Candidates with a first-class or strong upper second-class undergraduate degree in Chemistry are encouraged to apply. The candidates are expected to be strongly committed to research and have demonstrated the ability to independently learn new skills. Experience in synthetic chemistry is highly desirable. The successful applicants will be based in the Chemistry Research Laboratory, Oxford.
