Essential Duties Summary:
- Provide individual and group advice on educational and career planning, course selection, degree pathways, and transfer options.
- Manage an assigned caseload; monitor enrollment, attendance, academic progress, persistence, and completion using University systems; and document advising contacts and outcomes,
- Respond to early alerts and academic concerns, coordinate interventions, and refer students to tutoring, testing, accessibility, counseling, and other support services,
- Assist students with application, onboarding, college-readiness requirements, orientation, registration, and enrollment
- Explain University policies and procedures, including FERPA, registration changes, withdrawal, repeated coursework, academic standing, transcripts, and degree requirements; teach students to navigate University systems and resources independently.
- Serve as a liaison to assigned high schools and districts, providing accurate information on requirements, timelines, services, and student progress as appropriate,
- Conduct high school visits, advising and registration events, orientations, parent/family sessions, workshops, and other dual enrollment activities,
- Assist graduating students with transition to Texas Southern University or other postsecondary institutions.
- Support dual enrollment recruitment, retention, completion, student communications, reporting, assessment, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain current knowledge of TSU programs, policies, dual enrollment requirements, and student services; complete required training and professional development.
- Perform other duties and assignments as required.

Education:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in higher education four-year College or university or equivalent, education, counseling, student affairs, educational leadership, or a related field . Proof of enrollment in a master’s Program may suffice.
Required Licensing/Certification:
Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of academic advising, student development, college access, and student success practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, educators, faculty, University personnel, and community partners.
- Strong customer service, organization, interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple student cases and priorities while maintaining confidential student information in accordance with FERPA and University requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and student information/advising systems; familiarity with Banner, Slate, Navigate360, Canvas, or comparable systems preferred.
- Familiarity with Texas dual credit requirements, the Texas Success Initiative, and the Texas Common Course Numbering System preferred.
- Ability to travel to partner schools and work occasionally evenings and weekends.
- Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems,
- electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.
Work Experience:
Preferred:
- One (1) year of related professional experience in academic advising, student services, admissions/enrollment, college access, student success, secondary education, higher education, or a related area preferred.
- Experience with high school or college-aged students, dual credit/early college programs,
- K- 12/postsecondary partnerships, or student caseloads preferred.
- Experience working in an educational setting
Working/Environmental Conditions:
Work is performed in the university, high school, and community settings and requires regular interaction with students, families, school personnel, faculty, and staff.
Local travel and occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
Must be able to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation and occasionally move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
