Early and precise diagnosis in Alzheimer's disease spectrum disorders

Early and precise diagnosis in Alzheimer's disease spectrum disorders

University of Reading School of Psychology & Clinical Language Sciences

About the Project

Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease is essential to be able to make post-diagnostic recommendations for pharmacological and non- pharmacological interventions. Atypical forms of Alzheimer's disease have received less research into the most sensitive and specific cognitive assessment for early diagnosis. These conditions, such as Posterior cortical atrophy and Logopenic aphasia, are rarer in presentation and are often underdiagnosed. Delayed diagnosis can have major implications for prognosis in these patients. The aim of this project will be to explore and refine cognitive protocols for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease disorders.

Funding Notes

1st class (preferable) or High 2.i in a relevant discipline (e.g. Neuroscience or Psychology). Previous experience with working with dementia patients and neuropsychological assessment would be desirable.
