Job Description

Three-year fixed term role delivering collaborative oenology research, contribute to teaching, & build strong academic, industry & community connections.

Mō te tūka | The role

This is an exciting opportunity for an early‑career researcher to develop their academic profile while contributing to teaching and service activity. You’ll work closely with academic colleagues on relevant oenology research, publish high‑quality outputs, and support undergraduate and postgraduate learning.

Some tasks of the role include:

  • Conducting collaborative research in agreed wine science areas
  • Publishing research in reputable national and international journals
  • Contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities
  • Participating in research teams across disciplines and institutions
  • Engaging with industry, professional bodies, and the wider community
  • Supporting equity, Treaty of Waitangi commitments, and a positive academic culture

Based in our Wine, Food and Molecular Biosciences team, this role offers access to outstanding research facilities, vineyards, laboratories, and strong industry connections, all within a collegial and supportive academic environment.

Mahi & Wāhi / Utu | Work pattern, location & salary

This three-year fixed term based at our Lincoln Campus and works 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE). The salary for this position is fixed at $75,000 per annum.

Kā tino Pūkeka/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role

To be successful in the role you will have

  • A PhD in Wine Science or a closely related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of wine production processes and wine chemistry
  • Experience with advanced chemical and instrumental analysis techniques
  • Sound capability in statistical analysis and experimental design
  • A developing track record of quality research and publication
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across diverse groups
