JOB DESCRIPTION
The Earth Sciences Department/Natural Sciences Division is seeking adjunct instructors to teach a variety of courses ranging from geology to meteorology to climate science. Most courses are intended for general education non-major students with a small portion of Earth Science or Geology majors. The department has a variety of equipment and samples for geology and oceanography to use for demonstrations or hands-on experiences. Currently, lecture courses are available with the possibility of lab and field courses in the future.
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Duties and responsibilities as presented are intended to be representative and not restrictive. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment and allocation of duties in accordance with operational needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s in geology, geophysics, earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography or paleontology OR Bachelor’s in geology AND Master’s in geography, physics, or geochemistry
OR
Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
OR
The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience teaching undergraduate Earth Science courses for non-majors.
Experience in incorporating student-centered learning strategies and active learning pedagogy. Commitment to examine, reflect, and modify instructional, relational, and classroom practices in order to effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted student populations with the goal of closing equity gaps.
SALARY RANGE
$1572.67 - $1725.85 per lecture unit rate, $1572.67 - $1725.85 per lab parity unit rate, $1258.16 - $1380.60 per lab unit rate
