Position description

The Office of Undergraduate Education tutors will serve as learning assistants for Econ in an open tutoring center format. Tutors increase course proficiency by assisting students in finding their own answers to questions and helping them learning methods to solve problems independently. Support is structured to reinforce course material, with a focus on grasping the content of courses and building student capacity to be successful in future courses.

Tutors are responsible for creating an inclusive learning environment, greeting students and explaining the functions of the learning centers to new students. Staff are responsible for reviewing and understanding the Employee Handbook, attending pedagogical training events, mentoring new tutors and ensuring compliance with Center procedures.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

Overall GPA of 3.0
Grades of B or higher earned in tutored, or equivalent
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds, age groups and learning needs
Possess patience and interest in assisting students
Strong grasp of course concepts

Completed courses required by subject

Econ Tutoring: Econ 100
