General Information
The James Madison University Libraries seeks applications for a full-time Employee Resources and Organizational Learning Specialist.
This position will:
- Provide support to ensure smooth operations for personnel actions.
- Coordinate performance management process.
- Oversee wage (part-time) and student employee processes, procedures, and related budget allocations.
- Support organizational learning within JMU Libraries.
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Employee Resources & Organizational Learning within the Library Administrative Team, a group of dedicated professionals offering centralized support to the broader JMU Libraries organization. This position will also participate in cross-training for critical core responsibilities.
This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position with benefits. Normal work shifts for this position will align with regular university business hours.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Initiate, process, and coordinate personnel actions ensuring accuracy and compliance for full-time, part-time, wage, student employees, and graduate assistants. Maintain employee records, databases, and organizational information and ensure compliance with institutional policies.
- Coordinate the performance evaluation process, communicate timelines and expectations, and support supervisors and employees throughout the annual evaluation cycle.
- Support recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes for wage and student employees.
- Contribute to onboarding, professional development, and engagement programs that foster a positive workplace culture.
- Assist with the planning and delivery of learning and development initiatives and collaborate with campus partners to support organizational learning.
- Serve as a resource for Libraries employees and supervisors.
Qualifications
Relevant experience providing high-quality administrative or employment-related support, including processing personnel actions, maintaining records, or supporting employee programs.
Experience working with databases, spreadsheets, or administrative systems to track information and support decision-making.
Evidence of strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with employees, supervisors, and campus partners. Maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a dynamic, collegial, and collaborative environment.
Demonstrated commitment to building environments that are accessible and welcoming.
Additional Considerations
Experience supporting onboarding, hiring, or performance evaluation processes.
Familiarity with employment processes in a higher education setting.
Experience coordinating programming, training, or professional development initiatives.
Experience working with learning management systems, HR-related platforms, or employee databases.
