Equine and Farm Animal Attendant
Essential Job Duties
The Equine and Farm Animal Attendant provides essential daily care and husbandry support for all patients admitted to the Equine and Farm Animal Veterinary Center. This role is vital to maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient hospital environment, ensuring patient comfort, and upholding strict biosecurity standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Care & Animal Husbandry
- Provide daily care for a varied range of large animal patients, including equine, bovine, caprine, ovine, and camelid species.
- Execute feeding, watering, and grooming schedules according to veterinary instructions and patient needs.
- Safely handle, move, and restrain patients for clinical procedures, examinations, and treatments.
2. Hospital Cleanliness & Biosecurity
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and hazard-free hospital environment by strictly adhering to established protocols.
- Perform routine stall cleaning and the stripping, cleaning, and disinfecting of all clinical and housing areas.
- Manage daily waste disposal, trash removal, and general environmental upkeep.
- Strictly enforce and comply with all Infectious Disease and isolation protocols to prevent cross-contamination.
3. Facilities, Grounds & Equipment Management
- Maintain both indoor and outdoor hospital grounds to ensure safety and professional appearance.
- Monitor hospital equipment and supplies, tracking and coordinating necessary repair schedules.
- Assist with inventory control, tracking stock levels, and ordering/purchasing supplies to prevent shortages.
4. Operational Collaboration & Scheduling
- Communicate effectively and collaborate seamlessly with veterinary technicians, clinicians, ancillary services, and other hospital departments.
- Participate in a mandatory operational rotation, including weekend, holiday, and on-call schedules to ensure 24/7 hospital coverage.
