The School of Sport Sciences in the College of Applied Human Sciences at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Esports Operations Coordinator and Valorant Assistant Coach.
About the Opportunity
The Esports Operations Coordinator and Valorant Assistant Coach serves a dual role within the WVU Esports ecosystem, supporting both the operational infrastructure and the competitive success of the varsity program. This position leads the logistical planning and execution of varsity team operations, facility management, event coordination, and summer programming. In addition, this role supports outreach and recruitment initiatives through the execution of tournaments, camps, and community-facing events, assists in supervision of operational student staff, and contributes to the coaching and development of WVU varsity esports teams.

What You'll Do
Operations, Facility Management & Event Execution
- Lead logistical planning and coordination of varsity team schedules, competitions, travel, and semester event calendars in collaboration with the Director of Esports
- Oversee daily operations of the esports facility, including equipment management, software/game updates, inventory tracking, preventative maintenance, and policy enforcement
- Coordinate with institutional IT and campus partners to ensure optimal performance of hardware, software, and broadcast systems
- Supervise and mentor operational student staff, including graduate assistants and content/event interns, ensuring quality control and professional development
- Plan and execute in-person and virtual events, including tournaments, campus engagement activities, livestreams, broadcasts, and community programming
- Support implementation of youth programs such as summer camps, scholastic leagues, championship events, and school break programming
- Assist with outreach initiatives including high school leagues, LAN events, campus tours, and recruitment events as needed
- Provide operational oversight and advising support to the collegiate gaming club and affiliated club sport teams
Varsity Esports Coaching & Competitive Operations Support
- Assist the Director of Esports/Head Coach in coaching varsity esports teams across designated competitive titles (Valorant)
- Support practice planning, competitive preparation, performance analysis, and opponent scouting
- Conduct individual and team evaluations to support athlete development, goal setting, and retention
- Maintain roster operations and assist in recruitment of prospective student-athletes
- Attend and support all practices, competitions, and tournaments as required
- Collaborate on elite and developmental summer camp programming
- Contribute to promotional efforts and work with communications staff to enhance program visibility and competitive branding
Other Duties as Assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Esports, Sport Management, Business, Recreation Management, Communication, or related field
- A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in esports operations, event management, facility management, coaching, or related areas (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Demonstrated experience managing logistics, facilities, or event operations
- Strong understanding of at least one competitive esports title (Valorant)
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree
- Experience coaching esports at the high school or collegiate level
- Experience managing gaming facilities or competitive event operations
- Experience supervising and mentoring student staff
- Experience planning tournaments, livestreams, or broadcast production
