PURPOSE
The Executive Director of Islander Housing supervised by the Assistant Vice President for University Auxiliaries, will provide leadership and vision to Islander Housing. This role provides strategic leadership, administrative oversight, and operational management for Islander Housing. This position is responsible for creating a safe, student-centered residential environment that supports student success, engagement, and well-being. The Executive Director oversees housing operations, residence life, occupancy management, budgeting, staff leadership, crisis response, and long-term housing strategy aligned with the university's mission and enrollment goals.
DESCRIPTION
Strategic Leadership - 50%
- Develop and implement a comprehensive vision and strategic plan for Islander Housing.
- Collaborate with university leadership to support student retention, enrollment growth, and campus engagement initiatives.
- Promote a residential culture that enhances academic success, wellness, and student belonging.
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiency and revenue enhancement.
- Lead emergency preparedness and crisis response efforts for residential communities.
- Monitor risk management practices and ensure resident safety protocols are maintained.
- Use data and assessment tools to evaluate resident satisfaction, occupancy, retention, and program effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with university policies, federal and state regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Prepare reports, assessments, and presentations for university leadership.
- Supervise professional staff, residence life personnel, and administrative teams.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate housing staff and student employees.
- Foster a collaborative workplace culture focused on service excellence.
Housing Operations & Administration - 30%
- Oversee all aspects of residence hall and campus apartment operations, including assignments, occupancy management, move-in/move-out processes, and housing policies.
- Ensure efficient daily operations and high-quality customer service for students and families.
- Oversight of housing contracts, room assignments, and residential technology systems (i.e StarRez).
- Develop and implement policies and procedures related to housing administration and student conduct within residential communities.
- Develop and manage departmental operating budgets.
- Monitor housing revenue, occupancy trends, and financial performance.
Residential Life & Student Experience - 20%
- Supervise residential life programs that foster student engagement, leadership development, and community building.
- Ensure implementation of educational programming and student support initiatives within residence halls.
- Collaborate with Student Affairs, Athletics, campus safety, and academic departments to support student well-being and crisis intervention.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in higher education administration, business administration, or a related field.
- Ten (10) years of experience in housing or residential life management, with at least five (5) years of experience in a leadership role.
- Additional education may be considered as a substitute for minimum experience requirement.
- Demonstrated experience in budget management, crisis response, and staff supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders, and to build positive relationships with students, parents, staff, faculty, and community partners.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to inspire and motivate staff members to achieve the highest levels of excellence.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from various backgrounds and identities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Strong understanding of student development theory and residential education practices.
- Knowledge of university housing operations, residential technology systems, and campus safety procedures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree preferred.
SALARY
$95,000 - $105,000/annually, approximately
$7,916.67 - $8,750/monthly
