Job Description
Under the general direction of a lead technician or supervisor, this position performs complex-level tasks to ensure a safe and comfortable environment; uninterrupted operation of mechanical and utility systems and equipment; and acceptable indoor air quality. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing building support services and inspecting, troubleshooting, calibrating, repairing, and replacing building systems and equipment.
The incumbent responds to emergency situations such as electrical, mechanical, and medical gas disruptions by evaluating issues, correcting defects, and initiating the appropriate response protocol when problems cannot be resolved independently. The role may include assisting lower-level technicians and supporting other trades as needed.
Additional responsibilities include adhering to all safety practices and procedures; cleaning and maintaining work areas and equipment; attending meetings; completing required documentation; and delivering a high level of customer service. Effective communication with customers, coworkers, and supervisors is required through written, electronic, and verbal methods and devices. The position operates department vehicles and performs other duties as assigned.

Work shift, hours, days, and/or location are subject to change based on operational needs and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. The position may require overtime and is subject to 24-hour emergency call.
Minimum Education Required
- High school graduate or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proficiency in high school-level algebra and geometry
- Minimum of six (6) years of experience in building systems operations, commercial or industrial building maintenance, and/or HVAC and building automation systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least two (2) years of this experience must be working with large-scale heating and cooling systems
- Must obtain the following within the probationary period:
- EPA Section 608 Technician Certification – Universal
- Valid OSHA 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health card
- Successful completion of the probationary period requires demonstrated competence in each of the identified technical specialties appropriate to this position’s level of responsibility
Additional Information:
The Target Hiring Range for this position is $29.05 - $36.32 per hour.
