About the Project

The Faculty of Science Health and Medical Science Research Scholarship is designed to support postgraduate research candidates in conducting health and medical research in Australia. This scholarship is designed to fund high quality students to work with academics that have been awarded an NHRMC grant in the Faculty of Science.

The scholarship may be either fully or co-funded by the Faculty of Science or external NHRMC research grants, such as but not limited to Investigator Grants, and Ideas Grants.

Funding Notes

The Scholarship will provide a stipend allowance equivalent to University of Sydney Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend rate per annum (indexed on 1 January each year), 2026 rate is AUD $42,754/year or 50% of NHMRC Personal Support Package (PSP 3) for postgraduate students based on the grant funding commencement date, subject to satisfactory academic performance as per the below duration:

I. up to 1.5 years for a successful Master’s by Research recipient (full-time equivalent), or

II. up to 3 years for a successful PhD recipient (full-time equivalent).

The Scholarship may also provide a six month extension to PhD candidates at the University of Sydney Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend rate per annum (indexed on 1 January each year).
